Transferring Old Recordings To A New iTunes Installation

Wayne in Joplin, Missouri asked about transferring his recordings to a new iTunes

Wayne asked: “I’m trying to transfer my iTunes from my iPod to my new computer. My old computer was stolen. All I’ve got are the recording that are on my iPod. I don’t know how to get them transferred over there onto my new computer.”

Wayne, iTunes will probably try to wipe your iPod and start clean, so don’t let it sync existing files with it as you normally would.

Your best bet is probably open an account with a service like Dropbox, or Google Drive, download their app, and go to your recordings. From there, using the share button (that square with an arrow) should let you choose whichever service you installed, and you’d get the files on your computer using that service.

We should mention that if your computer is a Mac, you can probably just skip any third party services and AirDrop the files to the computer from the same sharing menu. There are programs that will let you extract files from iPods, but in this case, you’re probably better off just using a service like Dropbox and not causing yourself extra work.
