Consumers Spent Over $40 Billion Over Thanksgiving Week

Black Friday is no longer defined by crowded stores and doorbuster deals.  The shopping extravaganza is now evolving into a full week. Lexie de los Santos with the Consumer Technology Association has the latest data on what we bought – in this week’s “CTA Update”.

CTA’s 2015 Post Black Friday Survey estimates that consumers spent $40 billion over the entire Thanksgiving shopping week and those who shopped spent an average of $319.

About 57 million American adults bought or planned to buy tech products over the Black Friday Week.  And what tech purchases stood above the rest?  Smartphones, televisions, tablets, tech accessories and Laptops.

More than 50 percent of Americans consider themselves done or mostly finished with their holiday shopping at the close of the shopping week.

On the other hand, 11 percent of Americans indicate they haven’t even started their holiday shopping yet. The remainder says they’ve either barely started or still have a lot more shopping left.
