Maryanne asked: “I have a very old telephone. It’s a Kyocera. I had gotten it originally through Virgin and I think Sprint took them over. I would really like to re-activate that thing. The battery lasted weeks and I could use it in office buildings and everywhere, but my current iPhone I can’t even use in my home because I don’t get a signal. So, I would love to have this as a backup and I was wondering if that was possible.”
Maryanne, it’s not looking great for your chances of getting your old Kyocera back on Virgin.
The reason we say that is because Virgin Mobile has switched to a new marketing strategy and they are exclusively selling iPhones right now.
They may still consider activating your old phone if you call and ask, but if this phone’s battery lasted weeks then it’s not a smartphone. That’s a problem because if all of Virgin’s new plans are geared towards smartphones, you will probably end up paying for data on a phone that cannot really take advantage of it.
You lose nothing by calling them and asking, but be prepared for a no.
The good news is that there are other companies that still do deal with feature phones, so you may be able to get a phone like the one you used to use, just not on Virgin.
