The first picture-in-picture TV is unveiled, Kodak leaves the instant camera business and the first iPhone is unveiled… It all happened This Week in Tech History.
1954 – The Duoscopic TV receiver was unveiled. The TV set allowed a person or group to watch two different shows at the same time. It was a primitive, picture-in-picture, split-screen that was tested in New York City and Chicago.
1972 – President Richard M. Nixon announced that NASA would proceed with the development of a reusable ‘low cost’ space shuttle system. He signed a $5.5 billion dollar bill for its creation.
1986 – Kodak got out of the instant camera business after 10 years. A nasty court battle didn’t go their way. The court claimed that Kodak copied Polaroid patents. Sixteen million camera owners were offered free stock, coupons or a replacement camera.
2007 – Apple chairman Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco. The 4GB version of what became the 2007 invention of the year went on sale in June for $499.
