A company has created a system that helps the visually impaired find their way around. The RightHear system relies on wireless Bluetooth iBeacons that work with a free smartphone app to create signs that can “talk” to the users. And since it knows the person’s location, the system can also provide directions on how to navigate to a desired destination. The result is an environment that is more accessible and inclusive for users and is used in stores and restaurants. The company currently has iBeacons installed in more than 2,000 locations in North America, Europe, and the Middle East. The company that created this system recently received funding from a Volkswagen program to create a system that would help people with impaired vision be able to interact better with autonomous vehicles, making riders feel more comfortable and in control of the experience.
