Affordable In-Car Bluetooth

Listener Adrianne wants to know what the best reasonably-priced bluetooth speaker for her car is

Bluetooth in car

Adrianne asked: What would you say is the best in-car Bluetooth speaker at a reasonable price?

If all you need is bluetooth you don’t really need to spend a fortune.

A Pioneer MVH-X370BT will cost you around $100 and it will do bluetooth, you can even find some generic radios on eBay for around $30.

For the same price you can find bluetooth adapter which take power from a 12V jack and connect to your existing radio via an aux port. The Griffin iTrip is one of those and it will cost you around $30. For around the same price you can get a Mobispeaker D8, which is smaller, but it will need to be recharged from a USB port.

You asked for a in-car Bluetooth “speaker,” but we assume you meant a radio or “head unit.”

You asked for a in-car Bluetooth “speaker,” but we assume you meant a radio or “head unit.” That’s what the Pioneer model we recommended is, anyway. It does a lot more than just Bluetooth, by the way, it even includes support for pairing multiple phones, pairing an iPhone over USB, or a “guest mode” pairing for a phone that won’t be in the car often. It interfaces to your music library and can play its own song mixes, and will also connect with the Pandora app on your smartphone so you can thumbs up or thumbs down a track from the radio instead of your phone.

One thing to keep in mind is that unless you’re very handy with such jobs, the installation of a car audio device can become tricky. Taking it to an expert for professional installation is highly recommended, as they will have all of the various spacers, wiring harnesses, and adapters needed to make for a smooth finished product.
