Just about every tech brand has a smartwatch or two out there.
For the most part, they all measure your heart rate, steps, and general metrics about your movements, but some have been trying to go a little further. Putting out a watch that can be considered a medical device is a fine line for tech companies to walk, since medical devices are subject to different and more stringent rules, but Apple recently introduced an electrocardiogram feature to their watches, and Asus is seeking to not just match them but beat them.
Asus’ VivoWatch SP was introduced this week at IFA with GPS, a two–week battery life, water resistance, an electrocardiogram function, pulse oxygen levels, and stress and blood pressure readings.
There is a catch though, different countries have different rules around what is and isn’t a medical device, so some function will only be available in certain markets.
