Phil asked: “I’ve got a Motorola Z Force and the contacts I have in there, when those people call, it only shows the number. I doesn’t show the person’s name anymore. I was wondering if there was an app to fix this or a way to fix this in the phone.”
Phil, obviously the contact’s name is normally supposed to show up when you get a call, so we can assume this is a bug, not a feature, and the bug may be in one of a couple of places.
The first and easiest thing you can do is go into your settings and find Dialer under apps and clear the cache. Forcing the phone to reload data Dialer data from scratch may make the issue disappear by just making it reload some small piece of information that was corrupted in some way.
If that still doesn’t work you can try clearing data on the same page, but that will also clear your call logs, so make sure you don’t need it before you do that.
If that doesn’t help, you can try actually clearing all of your contacts and redownloading them, Android defaults to backing up your contacts to Google’s servers, but obviously make sure yours are before you do anything. If there’s a problem with the way your contacts are saved on your device, that may take care of it.
The last and most difficult potential solution is to actually go in and manually change the numbers, if your phone was showing the callers names before, you shouldn’t need to do this, but some people have reported that their phones were not recognizing the formats in which the numbers were saved. For example instead of 555-123-4567, you may have to try 1-555-123-4567. Needless to say having to change all the numbers would be a very, very annoying and time consuming task, so we suggest you try the other methods first.
Thank you so much, I was having that.issue and doing the first step solved the problem. Now, incoming calls are showing the name contact again.
