Dealing With A Smartphone’s Poor Battery Life

Dale in Brunswick, Georgia listens on 93.7 WBQO asked us about the battery life on his phone

LG V10

Dale asked: “I have an LG V10 cell phone. The battery life is terrible. I downloaded the app, Greenify. It helps but I was wondering if there was another app or something I could do to extend my battery life better.”

Dale, the LG V10 has always had pretty terrible battery life. To give you some perspective, the V10 has a 3000 mAh battery, the same capacity as the Note 5’s and slightly more than the iPhone 6s, both phones that came out around the same time. Both the Note 5’s and slightly more than the iPhone 6s Plus, both phones that came out around the same time. Both the Note 5 and the iPhone 6s Plus squeeze over 3 more hours of battery life than the V10.

Even the iPhone 8 Plus and the Note 8 hover around the same battery capacity years later and with more powerful hardware and can outlast a V10.

Unfortunately, there’s only so much any app will be able to do to really make up for that, you’ll get a little more time out of the battery like you are getting with Greenify, but it will still drain fairly fast.

You do have two things going for you: 1) The V10 charges very fast, 2) it does allow you to replace the battery.

Obviously, taking out the battery and swapping it for a fresh one requires turning off the phone and waiting for it to turn back on, but it’s a solution if you’re desperate.

An external battery may also work better for you than an app, but you’re looking at a little bit of an investment.
