Can you name a technology segment that nearly doubled last year? How about wearables?
The wearables market continues to grow, according to IDC that tracks the industry. In 2019, unit shipments of wearables grew by 89% over 2018, reaching 336 million units shipped worldwide. While wrist-worn devices continue to be an important segment with a 44% share, they were overtaken by hearables that accounted for 55% of all wearables shipped worldwide. Consumers in the U.S. can now buy hearing aids and similar devices over the counter without a doctor’s prescription, which has helped boost the rapid growth of this segment in the wearables market. And Apple continues to dominate with a 13% market share, more than three times its nearest rival.
