Cristal asked: “My HP Pavillion G7. The motherboard went out in it and I was wondering if I replace the motherboard in it, would the computer last longer, or would I be better off just buying a new computer of another model?”
Cristal, as far as we can tell, a new G7 motherboard can cost you close to $200, that’s without installation, that just covers the part itself.
A brand new 17” G7 with 8GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive is listed now on Walmart for $500. Looking at that you might think “well, there’s a $300 difference, it may be worth it,” however the G7 has been in the market for many years now, at least since 2010.
If your G7 is a recent model, it may be worth looking into it, however, if we’re talking about something like a 2011 machine, you’re probably better off looking into getting a replacement. Computers don’t age gracefully.
If you’re thinking of fixing an old model, you’ll probably run into another problem: you may not be able to find an older model motherboard, at least not a brand new one.
If your computer is aging and parts are failing, it’s probably time to at least think about retiring it, if you can.
