Making Your Modern Phone 2G-Only

You may be able to use an app such as Juice Defender to force 3G to stay off. Some phones just don’t give you the option to disable 3G because even 3G is considered the fallback “old network” these days, 2G is almost the absolute emergency call-only network that manufacturers don’t expect consumers to ever want to use, so there isn’t always an option to choose it anymore.

Of course that doesn’t matter much to you if your 2G speeds beat your 3G speeds. The Play store is probably going to be your best bet if the phone is hiding 2G settings from you, if Juice Defender seems like overkill for your needs, there are plenty of apps that just change your 2G settings like 2G-3G OnOff, Intelli3G, Toggle2G Plugin, and plenty of others.

They don’t typically require root access, so you should be good to go even if your phone isn’t rooted.
