Replacing a Nexus 7 Tablet

Bill in Nashville, Tennessee listens on SuperTalk WTN 99.7 and asked about a replacement for his Nexus 7

Bill asked: “I’ve got a Nexus 7 second generation, 2013 model tablet and I’m interested in getting a new tablet pretty soon. I think that I would probably like to stay with Android. Do you have a suggestion of what might be a good choice?”

Bill, if you’re not in a hurry, you may want to wait a little bit.

Google hasn’t released an update to the Nexus 7 recently, but it is known that they have a contract with HTC for the next iteration of the tablet, and given that they’re putting out made-by-Google devices, a new Nexus 7, or maybe Pixel 7, is likely to come out soon and it’s likely to be a good update.

It is expected that something big will be announced in 2017

It is expected that something big will be announced in 2017, and given that the phones are already out, and Google Home is already out, many people expect the tablet to be included in the next release of major products.

If you’d rather not wait, Samsung has the Tab S2 series, which at 8” is a little bigger than your Nexus 7, but still worth a look, and HTC makes the Google Nexus 9” which is considerably larger than yours, but might be worth a look too.

If you’re willing to go even bigger than that, we’d tell you to look at the Google Pixel C tablets, but at 10” those are going to be a fairly big change in both portability, and price from what you’re used to.
