The Mystery Of A Listener’s Box With Buttons

Mike in Windsor, Ontario, Canada listens on CKLW 800 and asked about a mystery box

Accordeon

Mike asked: “I have a problem. I have 2 TVs in my trailer. I have a Blu-ray and a VCR. And I have a box that has all these buttons on it that I’m supposed to push and I’d like to know how to hook that thing up. To tell you the truth, it’s getting on my nerves. I’m wondering if you could help me with that.”

Nope.

Mike, we have no idea what multi-buttoned box of doom you have to use, or why.

You could be talking about an HDMI switch, if you need to connect multiple devices to a single TV, but that’s probably not the case since a VCR is not very likely to have an HDMI output.

It could be a home theater receiver that you’d use as a middleman

It could be a home theater receiver that you’d use as a middleman between the Blu-ray, VCR, and TVs and your speakers. If that’s the case, you’ll likely have to connect the VCR using composite cables (those red, white, and yellow cables), and connect the Blu-ray and TVs using either HDMI cables or component cables (the ones with 3 cables for video and a red and white for audio). HDMI would take care of everything with just one cable, component will force you to connect audio and video independently.

Other than that, we don’t really know what box with a lot of buttons you could be talking about. You could mean a DVR, but DVRs don’t really need to interact with Blu-ray players or VCRs.

What does this mystery box do? If you give us more information we may be able to give you a better answer.

If you want, why not send us a picture? Take a good, clear photo of the front, showing all these buttons, and a good, clear photo of the back, showing all the various connections. If there are any labels or stickers on the top or bottom, we’d need a picture of those also.

Send them to askdave@graveline.com and we’ll see if we can unravel your mystery.
