Dave mentioned a story about “Romance Pants” you can read more about it on Betabeat.com.
Gary in Salem, Oregon listening online asked: “Hey Dave, I have a question about the iOS. my son has been updating his and now it seems he’s not getting the same battery life as before. I want to know what could cause this issue? and is it common with the new update.”
Gary, that’s a hard questions to answer. It may be a common issue, but there’s no clear way to tell.
Whenever there’s an update, someone will complain about shorter batte life or some other issue, sometimes it’s real and sometimes it’s imaginary. We haven’t heard complaints about iOS 6 from a huge numb of iPhone users, but we certainly have heard at least some complaints.
If this is a real issue, it’s probably not stemming from anything your son is doing, but from some battery leak in the OS itself. If that’s th case, he pretty much has to sit tight and wait for Apple to update the OS he can’t stop draining the battery by not doing something he’s ALREAD not doing…
Now, you asked what could be causing it, we don’t know exactly especially considering that we don’t know for a fact there is an issue, but it could be something as simple as a bug in the OS keeping some progra running when it should’ve let it close, or it could stem from something no being done as efficiently as possible, that would cause more processor cycles to be needed and, in turn, that would cause more battery to be consumed.
We can’t tell you exactly, but if this is an issue with iOS 6, and if it’s a big enough issue that users can notice it, it will likely be fixed with t next update.
On my own personal iPhone 5, I have noticed improvements in battery life after the last few iOS updates (since 6.1.2, actually). The current release of iOS is 6.1.3, so you might want to make certain that is the version your son is using. Also, even though you shouldn’t have to d this, you CAN close all open applications. Double click the home button t reveal the multitasking bar, long press on any of the icons in that bar, th tap the red X in the upper left corner to close them. (If you miss and long press the icons on the home screen, ALL the icons will begin wiggling an show a black X in the upper right corner. Stop and click the home button again if that happens, so you don’t delete an app by mistake.)

The “Into Tomorrow” team discussed the latest apps that they have been playing with recently.
• Listner Richard in Atlanta recommends: IP Webcam, FREE
” Free app that turns your Android phone into an IP Camera”
• Mark recommends: Speedtest.net, FREE
“Yes, I know. That’s the name of a website. But it’s also the name of one of my favorite apps for both iOS and Android. One of th things in life I need to do very often is determine whether I have a workin connection to the Internet, and how fast that connection is running. That’ what this app tells you, with a nice graphical flair. It will autoselect a ser to test against, in a town as close to you as possible, or you can use the Settings to test a server in a remote location, if you wanted to measure your connection speed going across the country for example. It shows y ping time, download speed, and upload speed. It also shows a graph of how consistent that speed is. A graph that spikes up and down a lot, eve with a higher clocked speed, won’t deliver as smooth an Internet session as a very consistent bar even at a much lower speed. Speedtest.net is a outstanding tool. It’s free, although you can buy a premium version to remove ads. Available for both iOS and Android.” — Mark

“Into Tomorrow” Facebook Participation “TMobile has announced a total redesign in the Wireless industry, they are changing all their plans to contractless and they be the “cheapest carrier out there” And with TMobile having the iPhone in a few days, they are the last US big carrier to offer the iPhone.
With this new approach to the wireless industry T-mobile is making will this make you switch over for a contractless plan with them?”
Kris – I was with them for 6+ years, they had the best customer service and after that proposed merger failed they went to [CENSORED]! I left because of all their BS. Never will go back!
Cory I’ve been with Verizon for over 10 years and never felt that they gave me the best deal possible. Once TMobile makes this switch, I will too. Good day Verizon… I say Good day!
Victor I will definitely take a look. I have 3 smart phones on Verizon ready for new phones that I don’t want to give up my unlimited data.
Robert I actually get the lowest costs with my sprint company rate. Far lesser than any other major carrier and not close. The idea of a contract is fine with me. Every two years you can upgrade to the Iphone if you wi and sell your old phone for same or more than the upgrade cost anyway
Dale No, loving my 4g LTE Verizon service.
