We Help A Listener Find An App For the Visually Impaired

Mike in Houston, Mississippi listens on SuperTalk Mississippi and asked us about an app to assist vision impaired people

Seeing AI© by Microsoft

Mike asked: “You mentioned an App that can identify things by pointing your phone at something in a room. It was something AI. I would like to know that app.”

The app was Microsoft’s Seeing AI, it’s in beta and available for iOS only, but it’s free and can read currency, labels, handwriting, describe scenes, and more.

You can also try BeMyEyes. Unlike Seeing AI, BeMyEyes connects you to a human volunteer than can describe what you’re showing them. While it’s lower tech, it’s probably more accurate and useful to the end user, since you can just ask the volunteer to clarify a description. BeMyEyes is available for Android and iOS.
