Joe in Hazelton, Pennsylvania asked: “I just switched over from Verizon copper line to Frontier Fios and Landline. I wanted to keep my old phone number and I didn’t get rid of Verizon’s account so I could have it ported. I was on the phone with Frontier getting put on hold, bounced back and forth for three freaking hours for three days in a row. Long story short, they couldn’t port my number. They said it’s not possible to keep your old landline number with Fios. Is that true or isn’t it? And if not, why not?”
Joe, what we know is that Frontiers own website says porting a number is possible:

“Yes, so long as youre staying in the same geographic area meaning you switched to Frontier as your provider, and area code are the same. Phone number transfers, also known as porting, can take up to 5 business days.
If youre moving to a new geographic area with a different area code, you may need a new number. If youre unable to transfer your existing number, well provide a new number at no cost to you.”
So it sounds like they should be able to do something for you, overall but what is not clear is if theres anything specifically about their fiber optic plans that would pose a problem. That seems unlikely since the routing doesnt keep fiber lines from connecting to copper lines, and it seems more likely that they didnt know how to do it or ran into some issue and gave you an excuse.
It may be worth trying to contact them via a different channel, for example, they have a chat option on their website (though you may need to get past the Ai gauntlet to get to anything or anyone useful).
Your other option would be to transfer it to a cheap cellphone plan, but it would mean paying for a different plan on top of the one you have with Frontier that seems to already include a landline option.
