Donald in Espaola, New Mexico listens on KTRC 1260 AM and asked: “Is there any way to record a conversation on an iPhone while the conversation is taking place?”

Donald, the iPhones stock phone app doesnt include call recording capabilities so you will need to rely on third party apps.

Most will try to accomplish that by routing the call through their own servers and typically charging you for the minutes used.

If you want a truly free solution you can install Google Voice and route your call through them.

You can then press 4 and Google Voice will announce that the call is being recorded and it will record it for you. After that you will be able to access the recording at voice.google.com.

Typically all services that do this will include an announcement like the one Google Voice uses. The main reason for that is that they dont want any liability on their end for recording the call in places that require consent from one or both parties. You probably wont find any legitimate service that doesnt do that.

If you want everything to be contained to just your iPhone, the only built-in way to kind of accomplish what you want is to turn on the speaker and use the iPhone audio recording app and just record the call as it comes out of the speaker and is picked up by the microphone.

Definitely not a very elegant solution, but it will work.
