Don in LaBelle, Florida asked: “Wondering if there’s some way to verify if a product you buy is counterfeit or not. I’ve purchased some supposedly Bose wireless headphones, for example, that seem not quite up to their quality, so I’m just wondering how you would determine whether you’ve been taken for a ride or not.”
Don, counterfeits and their packaging have gotten better, so its no longer easy to tell if the product is not genuine by just looking at it carefully.
There are guides that will tell you things like check the hue of the packaging or check if the dots on the side look off but realistically unless you really, really know what things are supposed to look like that is not going to help you.
Since you already have the headphones and youre not trying to determine whether theyre fake or not at a store, your best bet is to make them interact with Boses ecosystem.
Try connecting them to the app and see if they connect, the app should be able to identify them and it will be much harder to fool.
You can also go on Boses site and try to register the serial number, if they are not real Bose products the website will reject you.
Unfortunately, the quality of electronics has suffered across the board in recent years so they may be authentic, but its a good idea to check, you may be able to send them back if theyre not.
