Tech News and Commentary

Dave and the team discuss wearables and heart health, and more.

Lee in Tyler, Texas listens on KTBB AM & FM and is participating using the AskDave button on our site and asked: “Wanting to know what kind of camera to use outside that I can pan and tilt and zoom with my iPhone and also have audio.”

Lee, the first thing we should mention is that if you want a PTZ camera you will need power. You wont be able to just stick or drill a camera into the wall and power it with AA batteries like you can with some small cameras available in the market today.

Make sure youre willing to do some wiring before you buy a camera because even if they are WiFi enabled you will probably still need to wire power to them.

You will find lots and lots of generic PTZ cameras online, theres nothing wrong with considering one of them but if you do make sure you read reviews, theyre not all equal.

If you want to try better known names Foscom has several outdoors PTZ cameras that may work for you.

Look at Reolink cameras as well, they make plenty of PTZ cameras that would meet your needs.

A company called Jiditech is less well known, but its still probably worth considering too. They feature more than one camera with built in 2-way audio, which is less common in outdoor cameras. That alone make them worth adding to the list.
