Jonathan in Atlanta, Georgia listens on AM920 The Answer and asked: “What would be the best laptop to buy for the “money and value and service?””

Jonathan, there isn’t a best laptop for the money, value, and service.

A laptop is only as good as it’s able to meet your needs, so if what you want to do with it is log into a website to pay your electric bill, and then play something on Netflix, then probably a Chromebook would be a great choice that wouldn’t cost you too much and would be effortless in terms of updates.

If you are interested in playing games then you’d want an expensive heavy laptop, and probably something like MSI or Alienware would be your best choice of manufacturer.

Generally speaking, cheap laptops are cheap for a reason and tend not to last too long, and expensive laptops are longer lives and better, but odds are that you’d know it if you happened to need a $2000 laptop. That means that you can at least rule out two expensive brands that regularly score high in reliability: Microsoft and Apple, both start out much cheaper than $2000, but either most current models will be in the 4 digits.

Your choice of other brands is vast, but in 2019 some of the best scoring brands in reliability tests are Lenovo, HP, and Dell, so looking at a mid-range laptop by one of them may be a good way to start.
