Weekend of May 25, 2018 – Hour 1

Tech News and Commentary

Dave and the team discuss a federal judge preventing politicians from blocking people on Twitter, Zuckerberg’s testimony in Brussels, a car navigation systems new safety designs, and more.

Our guest this hour:

Jono Millin, CPO – DroneDeploy

John in Columbia, Missouri listens to the podcast and is calling via the app asked: “Was going to buy a Subaru Forester. I was curious about Android Auto. The 2018 model does not have it, but the new 2019 model will. Is Android Auto worth waiting for?”

John, Android Auto is nice in that it integrates a few of your phone’s functions into a more car-friendly interface.

You can enjoy some streaming music, use better and more updated maps than you could from a car GPS, and respond to messages in a less unsafe manner, now… we wouldn’t necessarily call it a reason to hold off on buying a car for a year.

Technology keeps moving forward

Keep in mind that the 2019 model probably won’t come with the autopilot feature of the 2020 model, or won’t be able to turn on when you order it to using your Google Implant™.

Technology keeps moving forward, and a user replaceable part is probably no reason not to buy a car, at least if that’s your only reason.

Also keep in mind that your car is a longer-term purchase than your phone, and odds that before you decide to sell it, phone operating systems will advance enough that your car and your phone will forget how to talk to each other.

Android Auto is nice to have, but we wouldn’t call it a “must.”
