Our guest this hour:
Orlee Tal, CEO of Stor.ai

Greg in Nashville, Tennessee listens online and asked: “I’d like to know how to put my Wi-Fi on a timer so I can shut it down when I’m not at home and not using it. That way I know nobody’s using my wi-fi except during those hours I’m home. And you could also bring up electrical interference. How close I sit near my wi-fi router, and I’m wondering how much electrical output that thing’s putting and maybe causing me some health issues.”

Greg, to put your WiFi on a timer so it will only work during the hours that youre home youd need to go into your router. Routers usually have a setting for hours of operation. Older routers may have it as a standalone option, but typically modern routers group it with parental controls.

When you find the setting you can just select on and off times so it will be ready for you when youre home. Alternatively, you can just unplug it when you leave and save yourself the trouble of having to dig through settings.

As far as the power coming out of your router WiFi routers on average output 50-100 mW of power, thats far too weak to hurt you in any way. In fact if you can pick up a radio station around you then that signal is probably hitting you with more power than anything your router can put out. Dont worry about sitting close to your router, your phone talks back to it and you live with it in your pocket and that phone also outputs Bluetooth and cell signals. Your WiFi wont hurt you.
