Tech News and Commentary

Dave and the team discuss the continuing Musk-Twitter drama, Venmo, bank account, or debit card payments on Amazon, TikTok and news, and more.

Our guest this show:
Lester Taks, Owner of Cartronics

Tim in Greenville, South Carolina used the App to participate and asked: “My Android device has begun to show a search word on the bottom bar. I guess the best way to explain it is the bar that usually has a Google logo, the G and a little microphone and a little camera on the other end. And it’s just the button you press to search for things that’s standard on all androids. For some reason, those items have gone away and it just says the word search and it’s kind of lame looking. And I was just wondering if that was some kind of crazy update that I didn’t see while I was sleeping, or maybe it was something I can fix.”

Tim, it was probably some random update but you may be able to fix it.

A while back Google introduced the ability to customize the search widget, something may have wiped the current settings but its possible to both reset it to default and to customize it with brand new settings.

To reset it you can open your Google app, then tap on your profile picture, then go to your settings.

In the settings find Search Widget and under that go to Customize Widget.

Within Customize Widget youll be able to set your own style or go back to the default settings by tapping on Reset to default style.

Hopefully that will fix things for you, but if it doesnt work uninstalling the Google app and reinstalling it may help as well.
