Our guest this hour:
Jennifer Tremblay, Founder of Somm

Don in LaBelle, Florida downloads the free podcasts and is calling in using the AskDave button on our siteRequested: Yamaha Drum Module”I’m wondering if wireless headphones can sound as good as wired versions of earbuds and headphones. I’m considering getting some wireless ones but I wasn’t sure if the quality was equal to the standard wired earbuds or headphones.”

Don, the short answer is: it depends on who you ask.

If you mean, will the sound quality be good? yes it will be. Will there be skips or strange distortions? its possible if youre in an area with high interference but typically no, they will sound normal.

Where people differ is on the digital vs analog question. If youre an audiophile that wont listen to anything that isnt vinyl and goes on long diatribes about compression, then you wont like them. Theyre digital.

If youre already listening to MP3s, streaming audio sources, etc, then they will sound just as good as anything wired that youre already using.

As with wired headphones, brands matter, and some will go overboard with the bass to give the impression of better sound quality and fail pretty miserably at the higher tone range, so try before you buy if you can.
