What Will Change With iOS 11

Gerri in Baton Rouge, Louisiana listens on Talk 107.3 WBRP asked us about iOS 11

iOS 11

Gerri asked: “The iOS 11 has been previewed. What is the advantage of the new OS compared to the current latest iPhone on the market today?”

With iOS 11, Apple is giving the iPad the love and attention some users suggest should have been included in iOS 10, but that doesn’t mean the iPhone won’t get new features and improvements, too.

Some we’re excited about: iMessage will allow you to send money to others via ApplePay, similar to Cash from Square. Siri will be a lot smarter, gaining language translation skills and deeper understanding of your media tastes — so you can, for example, ask her to play your top favorite songs or inquire about the performers. Users will see the free space on their phones increase by up to 50%, as iOS will utilize a new kind of file for photos and videos.

The catch? This feature is available only on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, as it requires those phones’ processing muscle to work. Users with older iPhones will still see an improvement in storage, as iOS will manage old messages, attachments, and temporary files more intelligently.

Most importantly, Gerri, every new version of iOS includes updates designed to protect your security and privacy. And that’s reason enough to upgrade, even if none of these new features interest you.
