Kris asked: “I just got a brand new Lenovo B40 touchscreen all in one. All of a sudden, after a Windows Update, the Start menu doesn’t work. And you kinda need the Start menu in Windows 10. When is Microsoft gonna fix it?”
It seems like the problem is less with a specific update, this just seems to be a bug that is triggered for different reasons.
There are a few potential fixes, but they will require that you do the work, Microsoft may or may not fix it eventually, but don’t expect a fix in the short term.
You can try to scan and repair system files, the process is a little involved, you need to use a powershell and type some commands, have a look at this guide and take it slow.
You can also wholesale “refresh” Windows, which is Windows 10 speak for reinstalling the OS, but keeping your files intact.
The downside of a refresh is that you will lose all of your software that didn’t come built into Windows and will have to reinstall everything manually after.
These solutions may seem overly complicated, but you didn’t just lose the Start menu, you probably also lost the ability to search, which you will likely miss in the long run, so considering trying out those potential fixes and let’s hope Microsoft fixes the problem fully soon.
