Windows 10 And HDMI Woes

Mike in Guam listens on KGUM 567 AM and needs help with his HDMI port after a Windows upgrade

Computer Ports

Mike asked: “I upgraded my Dell Alienware from Winows 7 to Windows 10. My HDMI cable no longer works. Windows says it’s a Dell problem and Dell says it’s a Windows problem. They won’t get this fixed. I no longer can watch videos on my TV”

Mike, they’re both right. Microsoft broke it with the update, and Dell would have to make it work with Windows 10 on their machines.

If you happen to have an Nvidia card, you may be in luck. Windows 10 sometimes causes issues with Nvidia drivers, and they decide to turn off any extra monitors.

If you happen to have an Nvidia card, you may be in luck.

The good news is that you can right click on the Nvidia icon by your clock, go to “multiple monitors” and check mark all of the ones you want to use.

That may not fix your problem if you’re using other equipment though, in which case you’re pretty much left waiting until someone: Microsoft, Dell, Intel, AMD, or whoever, releases a driver update that will fix the issue for you.
