Replacing A Battery On An Old Laptop

Sony Vaio Laptop

Listener Atul in Santa Clara, California tunes Into Tomorrow on KLIV 1590 AM and wants to know how to replace the battery on his older laptop, he asked us:

Sony Vaio laptop. I purchased it about 4-5 years ago and the battery is dead. I wanted to replace the battery. Do you have any suggestions of places I can go online to purchase a battery?

Luckily, there are plenty of places to buy a replacement battery, just keep in mind that 4 or 5 years may be the nearing the end of the expected lifespan of the laptop.

Not many people have 4 or 5 year old laptops that work well, and even fewer people have 4 or 5 year old laptops they’re willing to spend money on. That means that there are no guarantees that you will be able to find the battery you need for a reasonable price.

Where to get one

Having said that, it’s likely that you will be able to find the battery, whether the price is worth the buy or not, we’ll leave up to you.

The first place to try would be Sony’s own website, they do sell parts there. If you strike out though, Amazon, BestBuy, Target, LaptopBatteryExpress.com, and many more sites sell laptop batteries. We don’t know your computer’s specific model, but if you search for it on any of those sites, a battery replacement will probably pop up.
