Acer Announces PC And Gaming Phones At IFA

PC Phone is a Windows phone that can be docked to work as a full Windows PC

Acer PC Phone introduced at IFA

At their press conference at IFA 2015, Acer introduced their PC Phone

The Acer PC Phone 21 megapixel camera, 5.5 inch Super Amoled screen, ships with docking station, wireless mouse, keyboard, qualcom A08 snapdragon, and runs full Windows 10.

The phone can be used as a regular Windows phone, or it can be docked, and used with a keyboard, mouse, and external monitor as a Windows PC.

The phone looks like it may appeal to people who rarely use their PC more than anyone else, or maybe for people who want to use the same desktop at home and at work, instead of a PC.

On the surface it looks good for travelers, but when you add the necessary dock, mouse, keyboard and monitor, it starts to seems too bulky, and it’ll likely end up being more of a niche device, if it takes off at all.

More specialized phones

Acer also announced the Predator 6, a gaming phone with a 10-core processor, 4GB of RAM and a 21 megapixel camera, haptic feedback to mimic a real gaming controller, and four speakers.

Acer says that the phone can handle “any gaming you throw at it,” which does seem accurate, but so can most other phones without the 10-cores and 4GB of RAM. Still, we’d expect to see good performance for a phone with those specs.

No word on pricing, availability, battery life, or what OS it runs.
