Where Can You Recycle Your Old Electronics?

Victor in Dorchester, Massachusetts ask us about recycling older electronics

Old PC

Victor asked: “I had read and seen an article on TV about a woman who turned in a 1976 first generation Apple desktop computer. I was wondering, do recycling plants or any other company in the business of collecting older electronics. I have some from the 90s and I was just wondering about that.”

If you have old electronics to recycle, there are plenty of options for you. The easiest is to visit your local Best Buy, Staples, or Office Depot store. They all will take old computers, printers, and displays in for recycling, completely free of charge.

Check with them first if you have a large number of devices, because there are usually limitations on the number of devices you can bring in at one time, but this is a simple and very cost effective way to safely recycle your electronics.

Now, if by “collecting,” you meant as in collectors and museums, that would only apply to special situations like the woman with the 1976 Apple computer. If you have a very old or very unique machine, it’ll be worth some money. But those are very few and far between, and chances are that if you have such a machine–you know it’s worth something. It’s just a matter of finding the right buyer.
