We’re not using it for heavy-duty computing, but I can surf the web, send e-mail, do online banking, etc. So if the caller is interested in just doing those basic functions, the Fire works great. You can even get free books on there from various sources. We’re happy with ours and I’d recommend them over the Apple products.”
Kindles are affordable and capable little tablets, especially geared towards those in the Amazon ecosystem (Kindle books, Prime video, etc)…
One clear benefit they have over budget Android tablets is that Amazon keeps fireOS — Kindle’s operating system — updated regularly, whereas it’s anyone guess if that $49.99 Android tablet you buy now will be able to run the latest updates within a year’s time. And as we’ve said before, updates are all about security and privacy, even if you don’t care for new features.
