Paul asked: “I’m currently a customer of AT&T. Here on the coast, C Spire is offering $650 to switch to them. I’m wondering what you know about C Spire and if this is legitimate and a good idea.”
Paul, C Spire is legitimate. It’s been around for almost 30 years as Cellular South and it’s actually the 6th largest cell phone service provider in the US.
They’re regional, their markets are Mississippi as you know, as well as Alabama, the Florida Panhandle only (not the rest of Florida), and Memphis only in Tennessee.
Even though it’s a regional company, C Spire does offer nationwide voice and data service. They use the CDMA standard, so they probably roam on either Sprint or Verizon.

C Spire’s old unlimited plans used to cap domestic roaming data at 25 MB, that’s less than watching a single YouTube video, their new plan doesn’t seem to have that restriction, but double-check before you sign any contracts if you’re a traveler, 25MB will go in an instant.
Their plans also seem to offer an option for those that need the opposite of unlimited data, they’ll give customers who use less than 2GB/month a $10 credit on their bills, so if you’re mostly on WiFi, you may be able to save a little more money by switching to them.
We have found more than a few complaints about C Spire, both in terms of service outside their coverage area, and about their honesty when t comes to contracts and charges.
The same can probably be said about any other wireless carrier, but it still something to keep in mind if you’re going to be going into business with them.
