Kelly asked: “What’s the best way to get cheap cable without paying for cable TV or satellite dish? Instead of paying $200 a month for cable TV.”

Kelly, if you have a good internet connection, there are a few ways for you to get content without cable.

You’ll probably want some kind of set top box or stick that will connect your TV with your streaming service of choice.

If you care about live TV, Hulu with Live TV will cost you $40/month and it will let you access live TV including local channels and many cable channels. You’ll also get an online DVR. Chris just made the switch to Hulu Live from Comcast and he says it was one of the best decisions he made. He’s saving tons of money. If you’re willing to pay $15 more per month, you can get more DVR space and the ability to fast-forward through commercials. But their lower cost plan has just limited commercials.

What Chris did – since he’s also an Amazon Prime subscriber – is get a Fire TV Stick.

What Chris did – since he’s also an Amazon Prime subscriber – is get a Fire TV Stick. That gives him access to all the Amazon Prime content, and it has the Hulu App, so I can watch my Hulu Live through that as well.  Hulu with Live TV also gives you access to the full Hulu library of on demand movies and TV shows.

Sling TV offers a similar service starting at $20 and selling what they call “a la carte” packages. If you buy a few of the packages, the price will go up very quickly.

If live TV isn’t important to you, you can get an $8 Hulu subscription instead to have access to the on-demand library only. Netflix will cost you around the same.

Keep in mind that you will need to keep your internet, and you’re probably getting that as part of a cable package right now, so don’t forget to take that into account when you figure out your savings.

If you don’t have good internet, your only real alternative becomes an antenna and local channels, but Lake City is only about half an hour from Erie, so that probably won’t be the case for you.
