Apple held it’s yearly September event and announced upgrades to their iPad, Watch, and iPhone lines of products.
Here are the products announced:
New iPad
The new iPad features an A13 Bionic chip which is 20% faster than the previous generation, Center Stage which adjusts the frame during video calls to follow movement, and ships with iOS 15.
The design stays the same so all previous accessories will still fit.
Like the previous model, this new iPad retails for $329 and up.
Updated iPad Mini
The Mini has been completely redesigned and features a new 8.3 inch “all screen” design with smaller bezels. It comes in 4 colors: purple, pink, starlight, and space gray.
The Touch ID button is now the top button rather than the front one.
The new Mini features a CPU that is 40% faster that the previous version’s with a GPU that is 80% faster and it now charges via a USB-C port.
The cellular models support 5G. The rear camera can record 4K video, which the front camera supports the same Center Stage feature as the new iPad, and the Mini can be used with Apple Pencil.
The new Mini retails for $499 and up.
Apple Watch Series 7
Apple unveiled it’s new “Series 7” watch, which can now detect cycling activity and falls while cycling.
It features a retina display with 20% more screen real estate than the Series 6 and more rounded corners.
It is IPX6 certified for ruggedness.
The new watch can also charge 33% faster than the Series 6 and in spite of the slight redesign still fits the same bands.
The Series 7 will start at $399 when it’s available in the fall, and the SE and the Series 3 are still available at $279 and $199 respectively.
iPhones 13 and 13 Pro
The new iPhone 13 retains the same size as the previous model and features a Ceramic Shielded front glass, an Apple-custom OLED, and slightly redesigned look with a smaller notch.
It comes in 5 colors including pink, blue, starlight, and product red, and in a regular and a mini model.
The iPhone 13 uses an A15 Bionic chip with 6-cores, capable of 15.8 trillion operations per second. Apple calls it 50% faster than the competition, but without naming the competition that might as well mean “50% faster than a 2000 Motorola StarTac.”
The new model features updated cameras with Cinematic Mode that allows mode advanced focus manipulation.
The battery life is improved by 2.5 hours over the 2020 model in the regular version and by 1.5 hours in the Mini version.
The iPhone 13 starts at $799 while the Mini starts at $699, but as usual there are different storage capacities, so those prices will get hire on the upper storage tiers.
iPhone 13 Pro
The iPhone 13 also comes in a Pro flavor, also available in new colors graphite, gold, silver, and sierra blue.
It shares the redesign front face of the regular iPhone 13, but has a 3 camera in the back, and a better Super Retina XDR ProMotion display with refresh rates from 10Hz to 120Hz.
The Pro comes in a regular 6.1″ model or a Max 6.7″ model.
The rear cameras are the usual telephoto, wide, and ultra wide lenses, making the phone capable of 3x optical zoom and macro photography from 2cm away.
The battery on the new Pro will last 1.5 longer than the iPhone 12 Pro’s and on the Pro Max the improvement is of 2.5 hours.
The 13 Pro starts at $999, with the Pro Max starting at $1099.
