Congress Is Looking At How To Provide Better Access To Broadband

Networking Gear

How’s your Internet access? Since you’re tuning in to us every week, I bet your access is great – but not everyone is so fortunate. So Congress is now looking at how to provide better access to broadband networks. Lexie de los Santos with this Consumer Electronics Association explains in this week’s “CEA Update”.

he Broadband Conduit Deployment Act, also known as the ‘dig-once’ bill, would make deploying broadband less expensive.

The bill mandates that federally-funded construction projects include the installation of fiber optic cables in areas of need for broadband.  At a congressional hearing last week, lawmakers discussed their commitment to helping us save money by providing us with ubiquitous fast broadband.

Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA, said that having access to broadband networks is no longer a luxury – but a necessity. And with the ever-expanding Internet of Things connectivity is critical for us, American businesses and our economy.
