DJing Laptops Options

Robert in Raleigh, North Carolina listens on 680 WPTF and asked about laptops for DJing

Robert asked: “I have a question about a “DJ-ing” laptop. I’m looking for a Windows based laptop with an HDMI port, lots of RAM to run the programs and Bluetooth capability. Do you guys have any recommendations?”

Robert, since DJ-ing probably involves putting your laptop into some pretty risky environments, we thought we’d start off by suggesting a rugged notebook.

Since, most people are looking for thin, portable laptops, you can get a decent deal on bulky ruggedized notebooks. A 11” Getac V110, for example, will cost you $425 and come with bluetooth, a 4th generation i5 CPU, 4GB of RAM a 128GB SSD, and the HDMI port you’re after. It also complies with military standards for drops, vibrations, temperatures, and humidity.

If a regular laptop will do, for about the same price you can get a 15” touchscreen HP Pavillion with 8GB of RAM, 1 TB HDD, a 6th generation Core i5, and of course bluetooth and the HDMI port you need.

Now, if you’re serious about high RAM, you can look at a “less inexpensive” $5000 MSI WT73VR. This one will come with 64GB of RAM, 1 TB HDD and a 512 GB SSD, a Xeon E3 processor, bluetooth, an HDMI port, and MSI says it’s “professional VR ready, ” in case you want to create virtual world when you’re not DJing.
