Gerri asked: “What specific components, such as CPU RAM, accessories, etc., would you look for in a high performance desktop PC in today’s world?”
Well Gerri, all of the old components still apply, you still want a fast CPU, as much RAM as you can get, probably a powerful graphics card, since most of the things you’d want a high performance PC for would use it.
Other than that, SSDs will make a huge difference for anything that requires accessing stored data or launching programs.
Depending on what you need a high performance machine, you may benefit from a fast port like a Thunderbolt port, but that would mostly be the case if you wanted to edit video or access very large amounts of data from an external hard drive, if you do everything internally, it doesn’t really matter.
The general architecture behind a PC hasn’t really changed, so the things to look for in today’s world are basically the same they’ve always been.
