Beyerdynamic is introducing new headphones at IFA
Over-the-ear headphones and bluetooth speakers are the new bluetooth headsets: everyone’s pushing them, so what’s noteworthy about these?
First of all, everyone seems determined to make us buy $300+ headphones, Beyerdynamic is asking for $69 for it’sDTX 350 model, and that’s already unusual, but what’s especially interesting is that they are the first headphones we’ve seen marketed as “setting a new standard for smartphone and tablet users.”
While most manufacturers are trying to position themselves as either fashion icons or audiophile delights, and Beyerdynamic certainly mentions it’s focus on “fashion-conscious music fans” and highlight what they call “powerful bass and detailed highs” on the DTX 350 press release, but they seem happy to embrace the reality that most people who buy headphones, expensive or otherwise, plug them into their mobile devices, and these are expected to be used that way.
Not plugged into exceptional audio systems, with extraordinary sound that can only be enjoyed on the highest end headphones, no, these are a regular product for regular use. That’s a refreshing change when everyone seems to want to market their products as unique and magical devices.
