Is There A New Channel Master DVR In The Pipeline?

Phil in Raleigh, North Carolina listens on WPTF 680 AM asked us about the Channel Master DVR

ChannelMaster DVR

Phil asked: “I’m interested in purchasing the Channel Master DVR plus, which is 1 GB of storage. I spoke with a large electronic retailer on two different occasions. They told me they can no longer get this model because it was being replaced, but did not know any details on the replacement. Have you heard any details as to what enhancements might be coming out, for instance – when it would be available, will it automatically scan through commercials, how much storage?”

Phil, we haven’t heard anything, and the 1TB version of the Channel Master DVR as well as the “bring your own hard drive” option are both still available on their website.

We’ve gone through their press releases, and have found a new antenna for cordcutters, but as far as we can know there’s no announcement of a  new DVR.

Now, maybe your big retailer has some embargoed information that we do not have, but we can’t confirm a new Channel Master DVR will come out any time soon.

As for scanning through commercials, Dish has said that they literally have people mark where commercials begin and end to be able to skip them, don’t expect that from a company like Channel Master, they don’t have the same manpower or funds.

If you want to buy the DVR you originally asked the retailer about, it is available on www.channelmaster.com for $349, the version that requires an additional hard drive sells there for $249.
