“News Pick of the Week” with Ralph Bond

When it comes to wind turbine technology it’s not just limited to giant windmill-like systems you see on huge tracks of land, or anchored to ocean floors. This week Ralph Bond, our science technology reporter, has news about a new and very clever small-scale wind turbine system for dense urban environments.

And now Bryan Young is going to take us Into Gaming! And he’s taking us on an Instaroid! I’m not sure what that means, but here’s Bryan to tell us about it!

Joe in Hazleton, Pennsylvania asked: “I know this isn’t a cooking show, but being a blind person, I am always looking for appliances without touch screens and instead have buttons and are accessible without being able to see – and I found just the thing. It’s an air fryer from a company called Vortex and it has buttons for presets and cooking time and it’s totally blind accessible. I love it and it makes the best french fries and there’s so much more you can do with an air fryer than a microwave. So I thought you might like to know about that. The other thing I have is a question: I use Goldwave to do editing of discs on my hard drive. How can I get them to play in the same order that the disc was recorded and not in alphabetic order?”

Joe, let us start by describing what Goldwave is for those who may not know.

Goldwave is audio editing software. Joes problem is with a feature that allows the user to load multiple files at the same time time. Visually those are displayed as windows, similarly to how you could have multiple folders open in the Windows operating system in different windows.

Goldwave can tile the open sounds and display them as sort of a list and thats where Joes problem is.

Goldwave says that it doesnt do that tiling but outsources the behavior to Windows itself which then displays the files in that alphabetical order by default.

There have been complaints by users that want them in a different format, but short of changing the file name to force the operating system to sort them how you want (for example, adding an A to the name of the first file, B to the second, C to the first and so on there isnt really a way to change that.

Joe, were sorry to say that the latest on that is that Goldwave considers it standard Windows behavior and they are not working on changing it.
