Ken in Shelby Township, Michigan asked: “I have two computers that were on Windows 10 and then we upgraded to Windows 11. I am having some issues with one of the computers. The other one not so much. We’ve had it a while. I wanted to find out, is it better to get a new computer with an all new system or is it better to take it in to a facility and have them go over it and see what is going on with it because things are changing on it that we’re not changing ourselves.”
Ken, there are many things people dont love about Windows 11, but it changing things youre not asking it to change is not one of them.
Things changing on their own doesnt seem like a hardware problem, so you likely dont need to go through the expense of getting a new computer.
It would be worth having it checked out or at a minimum running some anti-malware software yourself to make sure that nothing nefarious is making the changes youre seeing.
Itd be good to know what those changes are. Are you seeing changes in settings? Maybe something is corrupt and, for example, the default settings get applied again after you restart, that may be fixable. But if what youre looking at is more suspicious, like data being saved to a different location, or software you dont want being reinstalled, its probably worth isolating the computer from the internet and looking it over to make sure nothing strange is going on.
Wed say, try to take it in for repair first and see what they say, having to get a new computer is an expensive problem and there may be cheaper ways to go about your situation.
