Mike in Dover, Delaware listens on WDEL and asked: “My Windows PC has trashed itself and I need to replace it. I’m open to suggestions. I’m a disabld veteran and money isn’t growing on trees for me. So I need something that works well, but is inexpensive.”
Mike, the best laptop for you will depend on what you want to do with it and what your budget truly is.
For example, for $650 you can get an Acer Nitro 5 with a 256GB SSD, a Core i5 chip, and a gaming capable graphics card.
If you need to go lower than that, for $400 you can get a Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 with 128GB of RAM and a Core i3 chip, but it would be somewhat limited by Windows 10 Home S mode which seeks to increase security by only allowing you to install software from Microsofts own store.
For around $530 you can look into a Dell Inspiron 13 5000 which comes with a Core i5 chip and up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage. This model comes with regular Windows 10, so you wont be limited to software made available by Microsoft.
If you only really need to use online apps, then a Chromebook like the $250 Lenovo Chromebook Duet may work for you, but that means no native software, everything will require an online app like Google Docs, online email, etc.
