Tech News & Commentary
Michelle in Belvedere, Tennessee listens on WTN 99.7 asked us: “I was wondering how I can detect if my ex-husband has put spyware on my iphone.”
As technology advances, so does spyware; making it even more difficult to detect. When determining whether your phone is being monitored or not be aware of several signs that may signify spyware activity.
First and foremost… is your iPhone jailbroken? The only way your phone can have a spyware software is if its jailbroken.
Have you noticed any changes in the behavior of your phone in terms of battery life, an increase in data-usage, receiving strange texts, random restarts? If you are tech-savy you can go into your phones file manager and try locating any unusual name that catches your attention. We only suggest to go into the file manager if you know what you’re doing; deleting a file that isn’t the spyware can cause certains bugs on your phone and mess it up.
Another option is to do a factory reset of the phone which will wipe all your phones information and data. If you plan on resetting, make sure to back-up your phone. Factory resetting should be the last step in removing spyware.
The bottom line here is that unless your ex-husband is a really good tech wizard, the answer is most probably no. We can’t tell you about what might be possible, because you can’t always predict what people might dream up, but we can sure tell you that it’s not probably, and well outside the tech reach of normal, everyday folk.

Dan asked us: “Can I restore Windows 8.1 to 8?”
It is possible to switch back to Windows 8 from 8.1. If you have a laptop that you bought that comes with a recovery disc that includes Windows 8. Go to Advanced Startup Options and then to recovery.
You will lose your installed applications and would have to reinstall them. Remember to back-up your important files!
We are curious, though, why you would want to make such a switch. Windows 8.1 fixes bugs from Windows 8, restores the Start Menu (sort of), and is generally a well-regarded update. And it’s still a work in progress, as they are always releasing an update to the update.
