John in Sharon Township, Ohio”Looking for a solution to eliminate duplicate files. Photos, spreadsheets, word files, etc. I’m looking for this on a PC, not a Mac. If you can help me with either a commercial or free solution I would appreciate it. Thank you for all your hard work. Keep up the show!”
John, you can get this done for free, no need for a commercial solution.
Look into CCleaner, theyve been around forever and they do offer paid versions if you want to set up some automation, but the free version should take care of this.
Youll find some options to ignore duplicate system files, hidden files, etc, but you can turn those on and off as needed. The program will show you files that match in both title and size and you can then decide if you want to keep both copies or delete the ones you dont want to keep.
There are other options you can look into like SearchMyFiles, Duplicate File Finder, or Duplicate File Remover, but theyll usually cost you money and wont really do a better job unless you want to be able to apply specific filters like partial names for the files or folder, or file types (for example, Image so you dont have to manually search for jpg, png, tiff, raw, svg, etc.).
