Dave and the team discuss YouTube dislikes going private, the search for extraterrestrial life, Hubble’s problems, and more.
David in Mercer, Pennsylvania listens to the free podcasts and asked: “With today’s financial market being what it is, I was wondering what is a good quality, budget-brand motherboard and processor combo with memory to match.”
David, it depends on what you want to do with your laptop. At the end of the day budget is budget and you can never expect too much but some are better suited for gaming than others.
You can look at something like a GIGABYTE B550M DS3H which will support 3rd generation Ryzen processors. It wont support USB Type-C ports, but can be watercooled (though that may be overkill on a budget PC). You can find this model online for about $100.
If you prefer Intel processors and you can spend a little more money, you can try a MSI MEG Z940. It will cost you a little under $400 but it supports WiFi 6 and up to 128GB of memory.
If thats too much, for around $90 you can look at an MSI X470 GAMING PLUS Max. It will take gen 2 and gen 3 Ryzen CPUs, and can support 64GB of memory. In spite of the name, it wont be able to keep up with other hardware if your focus is gaming.
