Dave and the team discuss wireless earbuds from Palm, Facebook’s earnings call and defense of the company, and more.

Alan in Ackerman, Mississippi listens on SuperTalk 100.9 and asked: “How do I get my ISP to keep me from being hacked on a slow speed of less than 2mbps download internet that they provide from the local telephone company? And is there any way of speeding up an Internet signal when you have such a slow on, as the 2mbps download and less than 1mbps upload that my ISP provides me with? They force me to use their modem. They will not let anyone bring one of their own modems to their service.”

Alan, theres nothing you can do other than switch ISPs or plans.

They control the speed on their end and, realistically, if theyre providing you with such a slow connection its likely that the infrastructure is not there for a faster connection.

These days no one offers a 2 mbps option unless its the only possible choice.

If you get a strong cell phone signal where you live, you can look into the LTE home internet offerings from T-Mobile and Verizon. Theyre both offering home internet service at high speeds for relatively affordable prices (think $50 or $60).

If thats not an option for you and there are no other ISPs in the area, your only option will likely be satellite.

And if you DO want to explore your satellite options, we highly recommend HughesNet. We use them here at our studios and while upload speeds arent the best – and thats just a limitation of all satellite connections, we do get pretty solid download speeds of 25 mbps. You can text the word RADIO to 35000 and they’ll send you a link where you can find out much more about it.
