If you’ve already begun thinking about your New Year’s resolution to get back in shape you’re not alone! Health and Fitness Tech will be a popular purchase in 2016, Lexie de los Santos with the Consumer Technology Association explains in this week’s “CTA Update”.

CTA’s new report, Consumers Journey to Purchase: Health and Fitness, says smart watches are the top health & fitness tech item that consumers want to buy in 2016.

The rest of the health & fitness tech Top 5 are fitness-related apps, dedicated wearable fitness activity trackers, smart apparel and devices that track sleep patterns. And consumers’ top reason for buying a health and fitness device? To improve their health; which is followed by a recommendation from a friend and good reviews.

Fitness and health users alike want devices that monitor calories burned, steps taken, and distance traveled.  And consumers understand the value of collecting and tracking their data over a period of time.  They believe that once their data is shared with physicians they can effectively monitor their own health.
