Is The Upgrade To Windows 10 A Good Idea Now That It’s Not Free?

Dean in Jacksonville, Texas listens on News-Weather-Talk KTBB and asked us about upgrading to Windows 10

Windows 10

Dean asked: “I have a computer with Windows 7 and I am wondering if I should upgrade to Windows 10. Is it a suitable upgrade?”

Dean, overall people seem reasonably happy with Windows 10. Microsoft’s tactics to get people to update haven’t been welcome, but the operating system itself seems solid.

So, is it a suitable upgrade? It sure seems to be, there’s a problem though…

You waited out the entire year-long free upgrade period and started considering an upgrade a week AFTER the free upgrade offer expired.

Right now Microsoft is selling copies of Windows 10 Home Edition for $120, more advanced versions of the operating system go for more money.

If you haven’t upgraded yet, maybe it’s not for you.

If you haven’t upgraded yet, maybe it’s not for you. While the free upgrade offer we would’ve encouraged you to try it, it’s a good OS, but now that the offer has expired and with you using a Windows 7 computer can’t be that new, you may be better off waiting until you need to upgrade to a new computer and have the $100+ Windows 10 would’ve cost you already saved up.

Windows 10 is just an operating system, and an operating system is just the middleware that makes software and hardware talk to each other. If Windows 7 is meeting all your needs and you haven’t felt like upgrading to 10 for its flashy new features, there’s nothing wrong with that. Enjoy your 7 and just try 10 when you have to buy a new machine, 7 was a good OS.
