Aman asked: “I have a Asus laptop that I purchased for my brother in 2011. He wants to give it back to me. I want to use it to work from home. It runs on Windows 7. What’s the best things I can do to get it repaired to be able to use it now, I’m sure he’s downloaded a bunch of crap to it. Should I take it to like a Best Buy to have them clean it? What programs should I put on it to be able to use it now?”
Aman, if you can, format it and leave it clean as it was as day 1 before you use it for anything. Then start installing just the things you need.
The performance you’ll get if you do that is probably the best you can really expect.
If that’s not an option, get rid of all the software you don’t need, and run some tune up software. We personally use System Mechanic for our computers in the studio.
Any clutter that you don’t need, get rid of it.
Since the computer is from 2011, don’t expect it to be extra fast no matter what, it’s a little bit old. If you want to do something about that, some extra RAM and an SSD can do wonders for an old computer, but if you’re going to be spending a lot of money you may be better off looking for a new computer instead.
